Drive Source International came to Nelson Brothers & Strom for help in coming up with a solution to get a replacement part made for one of their motors. The casting used to make that particular spider is no longer available, there were no casting prints available, and the current volume could not support making a new pattern.
Nelson Brothers & Strom was able to reverse engineer their sample piece using their Faro CMM and provide a new digital model file of the part. NB&S has experience with other DSI parts used in the electric motor industry and was able to confirm the material choice of G90 grey iron. With the new model file, NB&S was able to purchase a billet of grey iron and machine a new exact replacement part machined to the paper copy of the finish machining print provided. The photos show the OEM casting and the new fully machined replacement part produced by NB&S.
